چکیده

Abstract. We present a method to combine CryoSat-2 (CS2) radar altimeter and Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture (SAR) data obtain sea ice thickness (SIT) estimates for the Barents Kara seas. From viewpoint of tactical navigation, along-track SIT are sparse, goal our study is develop interpolate measurements between CS2 ground tracks. The estimation developed here based on interpolation utilizing SAR segmentation segmentwise texture features. results compared derived from AARI charts; ORAS5, PIOMAS TOPAZ4 ocean–sea assimilation system reanalyses; combined Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) radiometer weekly (CS2SMOS SIT) daily MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) chart. studied two approaches: directly interpolated segments with mapping distributions correspond distribution model. Our approaches yield larger spatial coverage better accuracy either or alone. agreement modelled than CS2SMOS SIT. average differences when models chart were typically tens centimetres, there was significant positive bias (on 27 cm) similar (24 applicable future CRISTAL mission Copernicus programme missions.

Multifrequency Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar Observations of Sea Ice

The first known fully polarimetric airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data set of sea ice is introduced. Images were acquired in the Beaufort, Bering and Chukchi seas in March 1988, during a campaign for validation of Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Special Sensor Microwave Imager radiometer ice products. Statistics of the magnitude, phase and polarization of complex backscattered...

Development of Circularly Polarized Synthetic Aperture Radar

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a multipurpose sensor that can be operated in all-weather and day-night time. Recently, the SAR sensor is operated in linear polarization (HH, VV and its combination) with limited retrieved information. The characteristic of the conventional SAR sensor is bulky, high power, sensitive to Faraday rotation effect etc. Recently, we are developing the Circularly Pol...

The Object Detection Efficiency in Synthetic Aperture Radar Systems

The main purpose of this paper is to develop the method of characteristic functions for calculating the detection characteristics in the case of the object surrounded by rough surfaces. This method is to be implemented in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems using optimal resolution algorithms. By applying the specified technique, the expressions have been obtained for the false alarm and cor...

CryoSat-2 estimates of Arctic sea ice thickness and volume

[1] Satellite records show a decline in ice extent over more than three decades, with a record minimum in September 2012. Results from the Pan-Arctic Ice-Ocean Modelling and Assimilation system (PIOMAS) suggest that the decline in extent has been accompanied by a decline in volume, but this has not been confirmed by data. Using new data from the European Space Agency CryoSat-2 (CS-2) mission, v...
